The Australian Mountain Doodle is a meticulously bred mix between an Aussiedoodle and a Bernedoodle (or an Australian Mountain Dog and a Poodle). With this hybrid, you are getting the absolute pinnacle of all three breeds combined: the resilient health and sharp intelligence of the Australian Shepherd, the sweet and gentle disposition of the Bernese Mountain Dog, plus the allergy-friendly, non-shedding coat of the Poodle!
Breed Characteristics
Coat & Grooming
The Australian Mountain Doodle typically sports a beautiful wavy or curly coat, heavily dependent on their exact generation and genetic traits. They are highly hypoallergenic and allergy-friendly! To maintain their luxurious coat, they require professional grooming every 6 to 8 weeks alongside frequent at-home brushing to prevent matting.
Size & Weight
Here at Southern Doodle Co, we mainly focus on breeding our insanely beautiful Miniature line of doodles. Our Mini Australian Mountain Doodles typically range from 15 to 30 lbs, making them the perfect, compact companion for any household. Our Standard sizes range upward of 45 to 60+ lbs.
Temperament
Known for their massive hearts, the Australian Mountain Doodle is an extremely loyal and lovable breed. They form incredibly strong bonds with their owners and make the ultimate family dogs. Their gentle nature means they typically do exceptionally well raised right alongside children.
Energy Levels
They thrive on attention and absolutely require outdoor time! They love being actively engaged with their people—whether that's going on long walks, runs, or playing fetch. However, they also inherently possess a brilliant "off switch," meaning they are more than happy to lay back and relax while binge-watching Netflix with you. It’s a true win-win!

Letti, our gorgeous Australian Mountain Dog (check her out on our Mommas page!), was the very first to join our program. She was entirely "homegrown," being the beautiful daughter of Dally & Murphy! Dally possessed one of the absolute best temperaments of any Australian Shepherd we have ever had in our program, and that sweet disposition flawlessly shines through in her girl Letti!
